Opening an online drug store in India : Amazon

Amazon said it would launch an online pharmacy in India. The people of Bangalore will be able to take advantage of it. The big e-commerce company Amazon has taken this step to increase its market access.. “Amazon Pharmacy Services will provide over-the-counter and prescription-based medicines, basic health devices and traditional Indian herbal medicines,” the company said in a statement without specifying a start date. The company has taken this step in the face of increasing competition in India.. Here is a competition between Flipkart billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s online grocery service Geomart and other small players.

Last month, the company decided to open 10 new warehouses in India and start providing auto insurance. Amazon also received approval to supply alcohol to Indian states. India has yet to finalize regulations on online drug sales, or e-pharmacy, but vendors such as Medlife, NetMedes, Temasek-backed pharmacies and Sequoia Capital-backed 1mg pose a threat to medical stores.. The companies said they comply with all Indian laws. Even many business groups have opposed the online store, saying that the drugs are given here without verification..
“Amazon has a huge customer base, so we are forced to lose business. 5 million families depend on this (offline) business,” said Yash Agarwal, legal head of the Southern Chemists and Distributors Association in New Delhi. He said his party had raised objections against the government against Amazon..
